US planned to drop other atomic bombs on Japan

In the end of WW2, the USA dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It was one of the critical reasons why Japanese emperor Hirohito decided to surrender.

English media THE DAILY BEAST found that the USA was planning to drop further bombs.

IN THE SPRING OF 1945, THE U.S. ARMY SET UP A SPECIAL TARGET COMMITTEE TO DEBATE KEY JAPANESE CITIES TO ATTACK AS OFFICIALS BELIEVED THEIR REGIME HAD ALREADY MADE IT PERFECTLY CLEAR THEY WERE NOT WILLING TO SURRENDER AT ANY PRICE.
CONFIDENTIAL REPORTS ADDED THAT “EVEN AFTER TWO ATOM BOMBS, THEY PREFERRED TO FIGHT ON TILL THEY ARE ALL DEAD. DEATH OR GLORY.”
IT WAS A BELIEF SHARED BY BRITISH PRIME MINISTER WINSTON CHURCHILL, WHO ATTENDED TALKS WITH ALLIED LEADERS HARRY S. TRUMAN, THE NEW AMERICAN PRESIDENT, AND SOVIET LEADER JOSEPH STALIN AT POTSDAM IN JULY 1945, WHERE HE GAVE CONSENT TO USING ATOMIC WEAPONS FOLLOWING THE SUCCESSFUL “TRINITY” TEST.

The anticipation of the US military wasn’t completely wrong. In fact, even though Hirohito decided, after atomic bombs,  to surrender and convinced military generals to do,  some generals didn’t acknowledged it. Hirohito recorded the declaration of the surrender and it was going to broadcast in radio. Then some generals tried to do coup. They occupied emperor’s palace and searched for the record but couldn’t find and the generals were finally arrested or killed themselves. Thus the declaration was successfully done.

But if the declaration hadn’t been announced, the worst tragedy in history would have happened…Even though Japan had to compensate for crimes, is it justified to drop atomic bombs to kill civilians?
